2012 remaster of the original 1970 LP

Original jacket artwork

Emerson, Lake and Palmer’s entire catalog will be reissued over the course of the next year. The first batch of three albums — E.L.PTarkus and Pictures At An Exhibition — arrives July 29, 2016. The new reissue of their 1970 self-titled debut was taken from the 2012 remaster.

The group’s successful self-titled debut album comprised keyboard-dominated instrumentals (“The Barbarian,” “Three Fates”) and romantic ballads (“Lucky Man”) showcasing all three members’ very daunting talents. This album, which reached the Top 20 in America and got to No. 4 in England, showcased the group at its least pretentious and most musicianly — with the exception of a few moments on “Three Fates” and perhaps “Take a Pebble,” there isn’t much excess, and there is a lot of impressive musicianship here.
